2013 Costume Institute Exhibition

The Metropolitian Museum’s Costume Institute has been doing elaborate exhibitions since 2008, climaxing with the 2011 “Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty” exhibit. Rather than doing another one on a specific designer, such as “Alexander McQueen” and “Schiaperelli and Prada: Impossible Conversations”, the museum has decided to do one on a movement. The punk movement was popular in the 1970s, with such performers as David Bowie and Jim Morrison, and has maintained some popularity through such social groups as the Grunge and modern punk movements.

I am genuinely excited for this exhibition and what the clothes will be. According to the Huffington Post, the exhibition will exhibit works from such designers as Rodarte, Marc Jacobs, Dolce & Gabbana, Alexander Wang, Alexander McQueen, and many more. I will definitely make an effort to see this exhibition, especially since my best friend is obsessed with the punk movement.

What about you? Are you excited for the new exhibit or do you prefer when the museum focuses on one designer?
