Brilliantly British: Spice Girls at The Olympic Closing Ceremony

This was the world’s worst kept secret, but it was amazing anyway. The Spice Girls– Ginger Spice (Geri Halliwell), Scary Spice (Melanie Brown), Sporty Spice (Melanie Chrisholm), Baby Spice (Emma Bunton), and Posh Spice (Victoria Beckham)– performed at the Closing Ceremony for the Olympics, with other such musicians as The Who, Adele, Muse, Jessie J, and One Direction. The Spice Girls entered the arena on LED lit Mini Coopers that had stairs on the back and sped around the enormous arena (Posh almost fell off her Mini Cooper at one point). They performed their two biggest hits, “Wannabe” and “Spice Up Your Life”, and both songs made the huge arena explode with cheers and people singing along– at one point, for just one small second, the cameras caught Boris Johnson, the mayor of London, awkwardly dancing to “Spice Up Your Life”. Overall, The Spice Girls were one of the best performances of the Closing Ceremony and made many people relive the early 2000’s and want a Spice Girls reunion. But until that reunion, we will all have to suffice with the new Spice Girls musical “Viva Forever”, which has been written by the clever Jennifer Saunders (Absolutely Fabulous) and produced by Judy Craymer (Mama Mia), and is expected to be fantastic. Still, Spice Girls, if you are somehow reading this, please come back for one more tour! That is all we ask.

What did you think of the Olympic Closing Ceremony? What did you think of the Spice Girls reunion? And do you want the Spice Girls to do atleast one more world tour?
