This season we are seeing a plethora of dark, edgy pieces– clothes and accessories that make women look both tougher and somewhat like a femme fatale character. One of these pieces is the return of the combat boots, which were popular in the 1990s grunge movement and amongst men (especially those who rode motorcycles). Combat boots have been feminized by additions such as antique-styled buckles, prints on the interior, colored laces, and exposed zippers. Combat boots are best worn in a juxtaposed styles, such as with skinny jeans, lacy tops and/or dresses, pearls, floral accessories, and extremely feminine pieces. This creates a dynamic style in which you can express your femininity, but not look weak or fragile. Places to get combat boots are Journeys, Payless, most department stores (i.e. Nordstom, Macy’s, and/or JcPenny’s), and DSW (Designer Shoe Warehouse).
What do you think of this trend? Are you a woman and like this trend, or do you think it is too masculine for women to wear? Are you a man and think women look nice in a mixed feminine and masculine style, or do you prefer the traditional feminine style?
